  1. The most important thing to any business and community is "accountability". Unfortunately in the G.I.Joe Community just like in politics, we have to deal with the "good old boy" system of "I will scratch your back if you scratch mine". Like usual, the "lolhisstankers" are taking an opportunity to stand up for the third party venders, instead of holding people accountable for making product that is less than advertised. Remember word of mouth is worth more than anything that is posted here, if a third party vender does not meet expectations by all means get the word out, and people will always think twice about using them again.

THIS GUN IS TOO BIG. THIS GUN IS TOO SMALL. I WISH I WAS MOLESTED AS A KID AND HAD A BETTER IMAGINATION TO ESCAPE INTO WHEN REALITY GETS TOO BURDENSOME. : (

  3. I know people have done scale comparisons for Skystrikers, Whales, and Flaggs, and this is NOWHERE near as off as those, and nobody says anything about them. Why? BECAUSE IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER!

  4. I hope no one ever shows Obi a FLAGG or he's going to beat the shit out of all of us. : (

  5. For all the talk of irony around here, LOLCommander, you missed that one. Instead of using my post, you should have gone after Obi's where he was referring to non-scale users as troglodytes. In my world, there's plenty of room for collectors AND customizers.

  6. Hey guys! I just measured my dick with a ruler. Guess what? It's not to scale with my body. If it wasn't for Marauder Gun-Runners I wouldn't have anything big.

  7. Obi never said non-users were troglodytes. He said people were troglodytes for trying to argue the math.

  8. His insult was ambiguous at best. Your interpretation could certainly work, though.

  9. It was clear to me that he was referring to the few people who kept arguing against the math. Was it insulting? Maybe so, but then again maybe it was needed. I don't know, but it' seems shitty the way the whole thread was handled.

  10. I think it could have been directed toward anyone who was okay with the FOS being out of scale, but I agree with you completely about the thread. I have nothing against Obi, in spite of my snarky handling of the comment, and I think a customizer should be able to choose material that is accurate to whatever standard he is working at. I think Obi might have the absolutely best customs I've seen, and there are some other really talented customizers on the Joe forums. His detail orientation and commitment to scale quality are some of the things that make his work stand out. I'm not interested in throwing anything else at that mess of a thread, but for what it's worth, I wish I hadn't made that post. Not because it was mocked here, but because I would rather build bridges than burn them. It's always easier to hold the tongue (or mouse, in this case) than it is to unsay something impulsive.

  11. I think the biggest problem with the whole is ththing is that some people see their joe stuff as a hobby, while others see it as their craft. I'm speaking of customizers mainly. People that make it their craft, take things more seriously because it's a form of art and strive to be better at their trade. Hobbyists do what they do mostly for fun I believe, so maybe they don't care as much about finer details or scales. Just a theory.

  12. I was thinking the same thing. I've been thinking a lot about that thread and the insights it has given me about the spectrum of Joe fans. When I found the tank, I was just excited to find other people who loved Joes. Their excitement fed me; their customs inspired me, even though I'm a novice kit basher at best, for now. I've got higher aspirations for after my kids are a little bigger.

I digress. I don't think it's much different from writing. One person may have a book they like. They keep it on an accessible shelf where they can reference it regularly. Another person saw the words in the book and was inspired to write something of their own. To the first, someone says, "I hate that book" in some form or other. The first replies, "I think it's a cool book. That's why I keep it close. That's too bad that you don't like it too." To the second, someone says, "I hate your book" in some form, and even if the writer has experience taking reviews and feedback, it still smarts, regardless of what he puts out in his public discourse. It is more serious because it is creation. All aspects of creation, the parts (as demonstrated in the thread we're referring too) or the process or the final product, are more serious whether we are talking about art or our children. Creation is all about the details put in; collecting is about the details seen. Creators make what they like; collectors buy what they like. I don't know that there is a way to bridge that; when emotions run high, like in that thread, no connections are made. I hope they will be, though, even if it's a bit Joe-topian.
