  1. On this Fathers Day We should take the time to reflect back on how great we had it as kids, when our dads would take us to TRU or the local box store to get new joes, and remember those fond memories are a big part of why we still enjoy the hobby of collecting G.I.Joe now as adults. It is a wonderful time to reflect on simpler times and think about how our dads or father figures in our lives were a big part of getting us started in this hobby!

  2. This is my third Father's Day so whoever made the first post, well said. It's funny, this site takes a week off and my joke against the GI Joe Club is the first to get posted. First, I guess I'm honored. 2nd, I became an enemy of this site because I went after Gyre Viper on Hiss Tank (we don't always agree). The gang here will tell you it's because I'm a whiny bitch. I don't agree with the popular thought I guess. Since others now monitor this site and they like to try and figure out who these LOL people are I will pose this tought. Go back to this weeks posts on Hiss Tank and tell me there we're not better posts than mine who fit the LOL Mold. Also, Why does Gyre get a pass? I wonder too. Anyway, thanks for the props!! I can't wait for the people who never took the time to know me, to cowardly post things against me to further the character assassination that is this site. But, I have never been one to belong to the elite groups. See you on the tank!!

    1. Maybe you should take a step back and look around.

Gyre-Viper has given a huge amount of himself to this hobby, and helped expand our knowledge of G.I. Joe since he hit the scene a few years ago.

You haven't given us anything. You bitch, you whine... Every time things don't go your way you are crying all over Hisstank.

      Grow a dick, SoM.

    2. So, I need to give you things for others like you, to like me? I don't think I'm the one who needs to step back and look around. Thoughts?

    3. Because one person is afforded opportunities that others are not, does not make them superior. What makes a person valuable to a community is how they better the community, not how they use their opportunities to become an elitist. Not saying that is the case here, just saying it is definitely a widely held perception, on and off of Hisstank.

    4. I'll say this about Gyre, he's a lightning rod for controversy in the community. He and I haven't always agreed on everything and I definitely don't take collecting Joes as seriously as he does. I would say that about 6 months ago I though him to be a self-absorbed, self-important dick. I thought he was someone who started drama where there was none, he bought his friends, and that he had no idea about what was really going on. I've had most interaction with him over the last 6 months, and he hasn't bought my friendship, and I think I have a better understanding of who he is and what he's about. I wouldn't call us friends, but I'd say we're friendly. He cares about GI Joe and the community, regardless of what people may think. Maybe his idea of progressing the hobby isn't the same as mine or yours or anyone else's, but that's his goal. Yeah, he gives stuff away to people, but so what. What he's giving isn't just material, and I think that's what Papa Smurf is getting at. People will draw their own conclusions, and that's alright. We're all entitled to our own opinions. But I think he gets a bad rap from the haters. I also think he's not the God of GI Joe some make him out to be.

    5. This is not because whinebender swore off the club and announced he was done collecting gi joe only to later bitch about not getting a con set.

This is because gyre viper is an elitist.

      LOL.

    6. The entire set up now for the convention, the exclusives, the con sets, and the same group of individuals who volunteer and work at the convention every year is set up to promote elitism. The G.I.Joe Collectors Club is no longer about people gathering to share their enjoyment of the hobby, its about profiteering and elitism. Every year more and more people are turned off by the entire process, this has nothing to do with hisstank, or the post that was singled out by the people who run this blog, its a reality you can find on every forum that is G.I.Joe related. When the same complaints are universal, there is a problem that needs to be addressed.

    7. There is no such thing as "elitism" in GI Joe collecting. It's just a word petty, jealous people use to make themselves feel better about not being able to afford the toys they want. It's only "universal" among broke losers who are bitter about others having more money to spend.

    8. This is incorrect. Elitism:The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources. The sense of entitlement enjoyed by such a group or class. How are the G.I.Joe Convention and Convention exclusives, or rare items handled currently? Certain members who have the "inside" knowledge and resources that most of the collecting community do not have, get to participate in these items, while the majority of the Community are not afforded the opportunity to partake. By definition, this is elitism born out in what was originally founded, before the "online community" existed, as a way for people who shared the love of this hobby to get together enjoy the the get together and get a cool exclusive figure. What it was not originally was something that has reached $500 or more in cost that is so limited that even everyone attending the convention itself will not get one. Im sorry if it offends those who are part of the 1% to hear this, but the problem here has little to do with "income level" and more to do with the "business practices" of the club.

    9. Bullshit. I don't have any inside knowledge and I'm not part of any 1%. I just wanted to go to con enough to save up my money and go. That works for me. How's being whiny working out for you?

    10. Seriously, I have two buds that want stuff. I am going and they are not. We split the golden ticket. All are happy. Not to mention that I have been scrounging since January to make this trip a reality.

    11. I don't get what people don't understand about Convention Exclusives. Maybe it's because I'm a SDCC guy and you pretty much can only get the exclusives at the con or ebay, but if you want the spoils of the convention, just go. If you can't, just pay market value or find someone who can help you out. Trust me, buying the stuff off eBay is a LOT cheaper than going to the con unless the con is in your town. I have a co-op with a Joecon attendee. I get him stuff from SDCC and he gets me stuff from Joecon. It's worked quite well for a few years now.

  3. Fantastic Comments, it is always interesting to see how one person's opinion of something becomes cannon fodder for the elite, when it doesn't line up with their point of view. You know I collect action figures because i still enjoy the characters from when I was a kid. Never got into the hobby to try and impress anyone with my "intellect", "knowledge of every ioda of the G.I.Joe Universe", or to get into the whole "my collection and position in the community is better, or more vital than anyone elses". My interpretation of what goes on at this blog, is these people have extended the hobby for themselves from simply enjoying action figures with others who share their interest, to finding ways to make themselves feel good at the expense of others.

  4. Funny that they blog about SoM over something that was clearly a joke. Reaching for things to post its really sad. On one hand they talk about changing the community but with the other the help destroy it. Gijoe is a hobby to me not serious business. The day people let thier hobbies take over thier life is the day they should start rethinking things. It's pretty simple if you don't like a post or poster you simply ignore it. I have read that people want to change the way that people view collectors. That will never happen if the people that collect are to worried with what people that don't think. The biggest problems with all toy community are always the internal hatred for one another. Just like any other social group or networking there are different levels to the food chain weather you want to believe that or not is your choice but if you don't your a fool. As long as humans have walked this plant one group of people have always though they were or are better then the other.

    1. I actually agree with this on many levels. I thought SoM's post was pretty funny. It was clearly a joke. Don't know about the clown mask thing though. And SoM's attitude about being posted here again is a good one. Just let it roll man. If you don't, it'll likely drive you fucking crazy. Some of what's posted here is pretty dumb, other things aren't. There are far worse things posted in the last week that were missed over this.

    2. Kingbh, Could you please elaborate when you say "The biggest problems with all toy community are always the internal hatred for one another"? I'm not sure what you mean. Toy envy? Please explain.Thanks.

  5. Toy envy is part of it yes. All people collect different weather you go for the high end stuff or pre-production or just regular retail or classic. It's my belief that no collector is better then the other. Some might spend more then others some might even do more in the community then others but at the end of the day we all collect toys. There are things that piss me off to and sometimes even I will go on the attack I'm not claiming to be innocent. Point is someone that doesn't know something shouldn't get torn apart for asking a questions or showing off pre-production. I have seen people get attacked for many different reasons some vaild some not. There are things that get posted that are just so far out there that if the person or persons posting it would just take a second to think about what thier about type they most likely wouldn't.
